Program Requirements

First Year of Certification

· DIRECT Institute #1 – Methods of Teaching

o Five (5) consecutive days in July

                                    OR

o Five (5) Saturdays during the fall

· DIRECT Institute #2 – Classroom & Lab Management

o Four (4) Saturdays during the spring plus DIRECT mentor visit

· To Renew Certificate

o DIRECT Institute #1 – Methods of Teaching

o DIRECT Institute #2 – Classroom & Lab Management

o Take Basic Skills Exam

Second Year of Certification

· DIRECT Institute #3 – Curriculum

o Five (5) consecutive days in July

· DIRECT Institute #4 – Assessment

o Four (4) Saturdays during the spring plus DIRECT mentor visit

· To Renew Certificate

o DIRECT Institute #3 – Curriculum

o DIRECT Institute #4 – Assessment

o Pass trade exam or required state/national exam or certification

o Pass performance evaluation (ADEPT)

Years 3-5 of Certification

· Six semester hours of approved professional education coursework

· Pass Basic Skills Exam
